Lacquer Box Showing - V. Smirnova, Part 1
Thursday, August 11th, 2011
Welcome! Instead of presenting the newest work of Vera Smirnova in one go, we decided to divide it into two parts, the first of which you are seeing today. Smirnova has distinguished herself as one of the most accomplished contemporary Palekh artists. Well respected by top collectors in Europe and America, Smirnova has a number of boxes found both in books and in museum vitrines. Her eyecatching use of gold is second to none in lacquer box art. The dazzling effect which it creates, combined with an array of sympathetic characters, makes each of her pieces a true treasure. Any of the six boxes below would make a great addition to an individual's collection or become a gift of a lifetime to a lucky recipient. Enjoy today's showing, and be sure to come back next week when we will treat you to an even bigger selection (including some smaller works that will be priced at less than $500).
