Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, September 16th, 2010
Hey, we're back! After a layoff of about 6 months, we will finally start putting on these weekly lacquer box showings again. (Hooray!!!) Rest assured, we haven't lowered our standards in the interim, and you can still expect to see some of the most beautiful lacquer boxes on the planet. in this weekly ritual, Like the ones today. All of the pieces this week and next week come from one of the top collectors on the East Coast, "J.B.", who regretfully decided to part with many of his boxes after deciding to move to the Ukraine in his retirement. We wish him the best of luck!We start off with two very refined works by one of our favorites from the village of Fedoskino, Svetlana Chirkova. Both miniatures feature two lovely women, drawn to perfection, and the bold colors and flowers done in relief make them even more eyetcatching. The second box also includes a stand which gives this gal a perfect spot to rest. Following these is another skillfully crafted box in the shape of a cello, with scenes on both sides. The intricacy of this one is exceptional. and it also comes with a nice stand that holds it in an upright position. As usual, we could go on and on about all of the pieces in the showing, but now we will let art work do the talking. Enjoy the showing and come back next week for Part II of the "JB collection."
By the way, look for some new features in the coming months including some youtube type video and the appearance of a Russian lacquer box artist in Baltimore closer to Christmas.
