Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Welcome to this lacquer box exhibit which presents a joint showing of works from Roman and Vera Chibisov (husband and wife) from Palekh. These two paint some of the most exquisite scenes in the village, combining wonderfully original artwork with the prodigious use of gold leaf. Holding one of their boxes in your hands is almost like holding a rare Faberge piece. You will marvel at the detailed workmanship, and know, too, that this is something of real value. As far as the slight delay in getting the showing on this week, it's a long story. But, in short, we weren't happy with the first set of pictures that we took of these boxes. So.... we redid them all which delayed things a bit. Nonetheless, please note that gold does not photograph that well, and as a result, these are all even more impressive in person. Enjoy the showing and be sure to join us next week! Page 1 of 1 total page with 8 results.
