Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009
Hello! Our showing today consists of twelve lacquer boxes, three of which have been done by the ever popular Maria Vagner from the village of Fedoskino. This high profile atist has a very pleasing style with her warm and kind compositions, jewel-tone colors and first rate art work. In all the years that we have seen her boxes, we have never seen a repeat of the same composition, a real testament to her creativity and dedication to the art form. The three works that we have today are very lovely examples of her distinctive style. Boxes by this artist tend to sell quickly (click here to see a sampling of some of the ones that have been sold recently) so we urge you to act quickly if you see one you like. Besides the three Vagner boxes, there are nine others to look over, some of which you are bound to like. I am personally a fan of Tipyakov's "Wild Boar", but maybe that is due to his stange resemblance to my dog, at least in that pose! Both Tipyakov and Vagner have high name recognitioin in the world of Russian lacquer art and boxes from them can be found in several different art books on the subject. Next Thursday, we will bring you another fine showing of Russian lacquer art. Details to come.
