Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, October 15th, 2009
Welcome! We haven't had a lot of showings lately, but we expect things to pick up very soon with the arrival of another huge shipment of boxes, sometime in early November. Our Russian friend and colleague has assured us that there are some magnificent pieces, and once they arrive, we will be showing them to you on this website all the way up to Christmas.
In the meantime, we did get a smaller shipment in recently, and are presenting these to you this week and next. Today's showing will focus on one of the bigger names in Fedoskino, Nikolaj Zotov, whose work appears in numerous books and publications on the subject. Often his pieces command four figure prices, but today we have three excellent boxes and all come at under $1,000. "Farm Life" and "Belly Dance" are indisputably beautiful, and we love them both. But it is "A Class Act", done more than 15 years ago, that really captures your imagination with its endearing characters, the iridescent mother of pearl inlay, and its tiny proportions. A real gem! We also have a couple very nice Kholui boxes today, including the colorful and the multi-sided "Unusual Fishing",and the lovely "St. Petersburg". And those looking for a picturesque quiet landscape won't be disappointed with "Autumn Day".
Thanks for coming by, and be sure to come back next week when we will have works from Khommutinikova, and Evdokimova, among others. Page 1 of 1 total page with 5 results.
