Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Welcome! This week's showing of lacquer boxes is small and features only three boxes, but a rather large one leads it off, painted by Fedoskino artist N. Titova in 1975. Not only is "Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf" quite lovely, but it is also a great chance to pick up a significant collector's item from the USSR. A spirited uplifting work by Novoseltseva follows, and a memorable portrait ends the showing. Short but sweet. We know there aren't many pieces this week, and to make matters worse, we are going to take a few weeks off to do some renovations in our gallery and to bring more boxes into the U.S. But stay with us, we'll soon be back with many more showings to come, and perhaps another contest or two. On a related note, this Washington Post article about nesting dolls was brought to our attention recently. Interesting read, and we have noticed some changes in lacquer box art recently, too, but we will save our comments for a later date.
Thanks for coming and have a happy holiday! Page 1 of 1 total page with 1 results.
