Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, June 11th, 2009
Today we feature four boxes by the Russian lacquer artist Svetlana Chirkova. The glamorous women that she depicts are all painted with extreme intricacy, have a certain extra refinement to them, and are never quickly forgotten. In our selection today Chirkova even does a wonderfully romantic
scene called "Tenderness", a truly eyecatching piece. "Mermaid", meanwhile, captures the image
of a sea maiden, somewhat similar (but not identical) to a "mermaid" that was featured in the book
Russian Lacquer Miniatures; New Visions. "Margarita" shows the tormented young lady from the famous story by
Mikhail Bulgakov "Master and Margarita". And "Waiting" is a pure delight for the eyes, as a
stylish beauty peeks through an abstract curtain of flowing blue and silver lines. Anyone of
these boxes done by this high profile Fedoskino artist would be perfect if you want something
really special for your collection.Join us next week for our last in the current round of showings. We will have two very elaborate works one by Nikolai Zotov, the other by Oleg Yastrebov. Unfortunately, both are rather pricey, so please buy lots of lottery tickets this week. Speaking of winning, next week you will also get the final clue to our "Name the Artist" contest. If you haven't thought about entering, you might do so now. There is still plenty of time and your chances of winning a $250 may not be all that bad. (It has been awfully quiet out on this contest...) Page 1 of 1 total page with 3 results.
