Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, May 28th, 2009
Today we present nine high quality works, including two that were made during the 1970s. The large "Day in the Country" by Palekh artist V. Kochupalov is a truly unique piece from that era. I'm not sure that we have ever seen trees in so many shapes and sizes, and the effect is quite lovely. The other 1970s box is "Prince Igor", which depicts heroic warriors of historical significance. We are not sure of the date of the box, but it came from the same source as "Day in the Country", and its condition would fit boxes of that decade. It's a nice work, too, and the red color of the piece is a refreshing change from the traditional black background. Besides these, we have a number of other very fine pieces, including the "Girl with Flowers", a portrait of a child that is quite beautiful without being overly sweet.Thank you for visiting. Please note that we are taking a one week break from the showings, and our make-an-offer day has been moved to Wednesday June 10th. Page 1 of 1 total page with 5 results.
