Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, May 14th, 2009
Good afternoon. We have a fine showing today with nine boxes, four of them priced indentically at $1195. It would be hard for us to pick out as favorite as they are all very different in subject matter and style. If someone handed you the money, which one would you go with? If you love the Russian lacquer art, you would find it's not that easy. (Unless you hated owls, horses, and rabbits; then you could narrow it down.) On the same token, you really don't have to spend in four figures, to get a creative and well done lacquer miniature. "Berry Picking", for example, combines traditional and no traditional elements to come up with a very sweet work that can touch anyone's heart.By the way, the Russian lacquer box made an appearance on the Antique Roadshow recently. Click this link for all the details, and many thanks to the gentleman in Puerto Rico who brought this to our attention. Thank you for stopping and see you next Thursday!
