Lacquer Box Showing
Thursday, February 26th, 2009
Welcome back to our next showing of Russian lacquer boxes. We continue this week with a small but select group of boxes, beginning with an absolutely gorgeous casket by Fedoskino artist O. Zayakina who is blessed with an extraordinary talent for painting portraits and robust genre scenes with rich colors and details. We love this piece! The second two boxes in the showing take a more creative, if not whimsical, approach to their subject matter and are a truly delight for the eyes, as well. Both of the artists, L. Slaeva and M. Khasanova, have boxes featured in a recent book on Russian lacquer boxes. (Unfortunately we ran out of copies, but hope to get in more soon. If you are interested, let us know and we can put you on our waiting list).Enjoy all the boxes today, and be sure to come back two weeks from today when we will have a very special showing of nine boxes from an old friend in Palekh who has done some groundbreaking work in that village. More about that later. Also, don't forget, next week is Make-an-Offer Day, where you know we will try our absolute best to put that exquisite box in our house at the price you want to pay. By the way, if you are not getting email reminders from us on make-an-offer day, just send us a quick note and we will add our to the list. Page 1 of 1 total page with 4 results.
