Artist Profile - Mikhail Papenov
Mikhail Papenov (born 1963) comes from a very respected family of lacquer box artists. His grandfather was a very famous Fedoskino artist whose works appear in almost every book-catalog on the subject. In continuing in his family's tradition, Mikhail graduated Fedoskino Art School and has successfully carved out his own artistical path gaining diplomas and honorary notes along the way. He participated in the exhibition in honor of 45 years of Victory in the Great Fatherland War (1990), in the All-Art Exhibition in honor of the celebration of 200 years of Fedoskino Art, and at the latest 9th Annual All-Russian Art Exhibiton in Moscow (1999). One of his boxes is presented in the book-catalog "200 Years of Russian Lacquery" by L. Pirogova, Kaliningrad, 1996, on page 69. Popoenov's works are in a local museum in the city of Kostroma, in the Fedoskino museum and in the Fedoskino Art School. Besides miniatures, the artist also paints in oils. He likes to do architectural landscapes and portraits. Mikhail lives with his wife and son Yuri in Fedoskino. In his free time he loves to go fishing and skating. |
