Artist Profile - Ekaterina Bykova
Ekaterina Mikhailovna Bykova was born in 1971 in the town of Temirtau, in the Karagan oblast. In 1991, she graduated from the Palekh Art School. Her teachers were V.F. Morokin and A.V. Gordeev. Following her graduation, she began working for the Association of Palekh Artists. Bykova has travelled to the United States twice in the past, to participate in exhibitions where her miniatures were displayed. |
Bykova has produced lacquer boxes both in the traditional Palekh style and a more unusual manner. Since 1994, she has been collecting a certain style of postcards that date back to the early 20th century. The postcards have a distinctive look featuring romantic or sentimental scenes involving children, and their influence can be seen in many of the sweet and charming lacquer miniatures of this artist. Bykova's favorite subjects include fairy tales and children.
In her spare time, Bykova enjoys sports. She also has a great fondness for dogs, especially her favorite, "Dusya".
