A horse and carriage are parked near the "Lombard" (pawnshop) in old Moscow. A mother and daughter, meanwhile, huddle next to another building across the street (possibly a library). The street winds into the background and Russian church cupolas rise above the roof line in the horizon. Patches of gold leaf are artistically placed throughout the scene and create a beautiful glow. The box itself looks more intricate and richer than these photos might suggest. The box has a hinge, is made out of papier mache and sits on four small legs. The sides and bottom are painted black. The name of the artist and title of the miniature are written at the bottom of the composition, and on the bottom of the boxes.
