Father Frost and Faerie Spring stand on each side of their daughter, The Snow Maiden, in this 7 inch handpainted lacquered plate by Palekh artist Galina Mochalina. The scenery to the right of Father Frost is covered with snow, as it should be, and the Snow Maiden comes to life. Faerie Spring's realm is to the left, where the hills are green, the sun is shining, and Lel is playing a joyful tune, his body gently touching the Snow Maiden. Alas, because it is spring it will soon be time for the Snow Maiden to depart this world, but not without sharing her love and good spirits to everyone who had a chance to meet her.
The plate is very detailed with radiant gold lines and ornamentation. Even the Snow Maiden and her mother have a glint in their eye made possible by a micro-dab of gold leaf. (Unfortunately, the lines and radiance of the gold does not come through in these pictures). The entire scene is very uplifting, reminding everyone to enjoy the moment. The plate is made out of papier mache and has a nice lacquer finish. On back, the artist wrote her name, the title of the work, and the year and place it was done.
A very lovely work, which could be hung on the wall, or displayed on a plate stand on any table of curio cabinet.
