The Duel (1984)from Palekh-style by ShkoninDimensions: 3.25" x 1.50" x 3.25"(8.26 x 3.81 x 8.26 cm) Gallery Price: $ 165.00 Internet Price: $ 135.00 None currently available |
Meeting his opponent in parallel course, the knight in golden armour strikes him down. The second knight's right hand is clasping a sword, ready for a blow, but falls helplessly as his opponent's spear pierces his throat. The two horses - one white and one brown - raise themselves on their back legs as they are forced to suddenly stop. The eyes of the two knights meet in this decisive final moment.
The composition has a pleasant combination of gold, red, white and brown - a vivid, but not flashy color ensemble. The details on the armour and helmets of the knights, as well as the bridles of the horses complete the fineness of this work. The box is made from papier mache. It sits flat with no legs and opens without a hinge. The interior is red. The sides are adorned with a golden ornament punctuated by flowers. Signed with the name of the artist, composition, and year. Lacquer is in very good condition, especially given the age of the box.
