Welcoming spring, the village youth join their hands for the traditional Russian dance: Khorovod. Walking gently and singing, the ladies look all around them, as if taking note of all the things that are coming alive again in this beautiful time of the year. The ladies' bright garments seem to join the spring in its undertaking of making everything appear fresh and youthful: the colors, flowers, and designs of the clothes are, after all, taken from the nature itself. Painted on a large box, the dancing village girls appear closer to the viewer, and their quiet joy more palpable. The artist utilized bright red, yellow, orange, green, brown, and white tones to create a fresh, peacefully energizing piece.

This box is made from papier mache. Its four legs slightly elevate the box above the ground. The box has a hinge at the top and opens to a traditional red interior. The sides of the box are adorned with a large golden ornament. The composition is signed with the name of the artist, composition, and village. There is a light scratch at the top right of the painting (it is almost unnoticeable unless the box is viewed closely in bright light). At the bottom of the painting, there is a tiny white speck - probably something got under the lacquer during the making process. Otherwise box and lacquer are in good condition.
