The Firebird (c.1995)from Kholui by ChirkinaDimensions: 4.00" x 1.25" x 4.00"(10.16 x 3.18 x 10.16 cm) Inspired by the fairytales: Ivan Tsarevich the Firebird and the Gray Wolf Gallery Price: $ 235.00 Internet Price: $ 195.00 None currently available |
One of the most frequently appearing mythical creatures in Russian fairy tales, the Firebird is depicted in all its grandeur on this box. Taking the entire stage of the work, the bird magnificently curls itself, so that its head makes a full circle near the tail. Its fiery red, orange, and golden feathers form a beautiful cascade of color. Scattered around the Firebird are tiny apples, dots, and golden stars. The details are very impressive on this piece; there is an earlier box from Kholui with the same composition, but this one has many more golden strokes and details, and much more crispness of color overall.
The box is made from high quality papier mache. It sits flat (no legs), and opens without a hinge. The interior is traditional red. A simple, elegant gold ornament runs around the box. Bottom of the composition is signed with the name of the artist, composition, and village. The box contains original Kholui certificate. Lacquer is in very good condition.
