Prince Elisey leads his long-lost fiancee to greet her father, the king. She bows, and the king stretches his arms to welcome her back, while the evil queen is quietly escaping in the midst of the celebration. The happy ending of the famous Russian fairy-tale about the perils of envy is skillfully depicted on this small box; details such as distinct facial expressions of the characters and elaborate miniature designs on the garments are impressive.
The box is made from papier mache. It stands on four small carved legs and has a hinge at the top. The interior is red. Painting and sides of the box are adorned with an elegant gold and silver ornament. Signed with the name of the artist and composition, village, product code, and year. Lacquer is in very good condition.
