The youth are earnestly engaged in dance, with the young man beating out a rhythm on his drum while the maid performs the moves. Her golden brown hair is waving in the air, as she turns back to look at the young man for a cue. The artist makes use of traditional bright red, orange, and green shades, as well as pervasive strokes of gold to create a fresh, animated scene. The scene is adorned with intricate gold ornament, and a different gold ornament decorates the sides of the box.

The box is made from papier mache, sits flat, and has a hinge at the left. The interior is red. Signed with the name of the artist, composition, and village. Lacquer is in excellent condition.
