The old eunuch humbly offers the Golden Cockerel to the king. The king, dressed in royal blue dress and red cloak, gets up from his throne and is eagerly leaning forward to look at the bird. Guards in armour and king's advisors stand to each side of the tented throne, observing the event. The painting is rich in color and detailed; golden strokes and patterns further brighten the already colorful scene. Golden ornament runs around the composition, and another one decorates the sides of the box.
The box is made from papier mache. It sits flat (no legs) and has a hinge at the top. The interior is red. Signed with the name of the artist, composition, and village. Lacquer is in excellent condition.
