While the young man is playing the accordion, his eyes are tied to those of a maid standing nearby. She, in turn, is looking gently and playfully back at him. The white and emerald colors of her garment echo the color of his shirt and trousers, accentuating their connection. Another young lady is leaning against the fence that separates her from the couple, quietly listening to the tune. Her bright red shawl makes her stand out in the scene where she seems out of place. The river, the setting sun, and wooden houses of the nearby village form the background of this romantic and traditional Fedoskino composition.
The box is made from papier mache, sits flat with no legs, and opens without a hinge. The interior is red. Lacquer is in excellent condition. "Fedoskino" is inscribed on the inside of the lid. A charming little box.
