Two maids are busy at needle work: one deeply concentrated and the other musing over something as she makes a stitch. With gold, blue, pink, green, and red colors boldly emerging against the black background, it is a very fresh and traditional looking piece.
The box is made from papier mache. It sits flat with no legs, has a loose lid (no hinge), and a red interior. A simple, but elegant ornament surrounds the painting. The bottom of the composition is signed by the artist. The box and lacquer are in good condition.
