The Mirror (2011)from Palekh by Vera SmirnovaDimensions: 3.00" x 3.75" x 1.25"(7.62 x 9.53 x 3.18 cm) Gallery Price: $ 745.00 Internet Price: $ 685.00 None currently available |
A bearded man and his dog spend a quiet time together, the mirror behind them reflecting images of their perceived past. Neither the man nor dog are in their youth anymore, but they know their souls will always carry the spirits of the handsome ambitious young lad and the fearless and respected lion. The picture frame on the nearby desk shows a young woman, perhaps the man's wife or daughter, and the clock next to it reminds us all how quickly time passes. A small tidy kitchen is drawn in the background. This medium size work has lovely fine touches of gold and silver throughout including the fur of the animals and beard of the old man. The box is made out of high quality papier mache, sits on three small rounded legs and has no hinge. Signed with the name of the artist, village, title and year. A thoughtful and handsome work.
