Archangel Gabriel is shown in this handsome box by Palekh artist Tatyana Smirnova. Fine gold lines define Gabriel's wings, clothes and hair. The brilliance and eyecatching nature of his golden halo contrasts with the a tranquil landscape scene in the background, painted in shades of blue. The words "Archangel" are written on the top left hand corner, and "Gabriel" is written on the top right. A lovely gold and silver ornament winds around the contoured sides. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and does not have a hinge. It is signed at the bottom of the composition with the name of the artist, village and year.
