The tender love between a mother and her little boy is seen in this fine piece by Fedoskino artist Maria Vagner. The layout of the composition itself has a very similar look to icon paintings of the Virgin Mary and Jesus, and the suggestion of Christian spirituality raises the level of emotion even higher. The artist also injects her own style and unique creativity into the piece, as in the depiction of the beautiful headdress on the woman, or the tender flowers along the edges. Vagner is truly an artist extraordinaire in Russia, producing an a healthy number of pieces each year, and virtually never duplicating her compositions. When you buy a box from Vagner, you know you are always getting something truly unique from experienced hand of a very talented artist. The box has a unique shape to it with a gold ornament along the sides. It is made out of papier mache and has a hinge. We are estimating that it was done about 10 years ago and the lacquer on the top has thinned a bit, but it is still in fine shape all around. Signed with the name of the artist and title.
