The Mistress of Copper Mountain, protector of the secrets in the Ural Mountains, looms over a perfectly cut flower that the student Danila is working on. She will exert her control of this lad for a time, but in the end true love wins and Danila will go back to where he belongs. To read the story of the Stone Flower, click here. The box is traditional in design and quite well done. And maybe it's the stern look in the eyes of the Mistress, or maybe it's the beautiful green color scheme punctuated by the bright yellow and orange clothing of Danila, or maybe it's the fine craftsmanship you can see and feel, or maybe its just the relatively large size of the work, but regardless the the box draws you to it and commands your attention. The main composition is painted on top of a raised oval piece, and around that, the artist, N. Loseva, drew some more beautiful flowers and hits of the surrounding landscape. The box has gold ornament on the top and sides. It is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge. It stands on four small legs. Signed with the name of the artist, village and title.
