The fairy tale of Vasilisa the Beautiful is depicted on the good sized box from Kholui artist S. Dmitriev. Vasilisa is shown clutching her little doll to her chest, as one of the fabled horsemen gallops past. Just a small part of Baba-Yaga's hut can be seen to the left. The box has great color and beautiful expressiveness throughout. It is also filled with details of every kind, and the artist did a great job in bringing this scene to life. The composition is framed with an intricately done ornament and there is another one that winds around the sides, as well. The interior is lined with a red fabric. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It stands on four small round legs. Signed at the bottom of the drawing with the name of the artist, village and title.
