Surely anyone looking at this scene would want to be invited to this masquerade ball! A dazzling courtyard sets the scene for the night's merriment. Lanterns and golden trees illuminate the checkerboard floor, upon which several figures play games such as hide-and-seek. Beautiful flower arrangements and majestic peacocks sit in the foreground. The palette of muted pinks, browns, and blues contrasts with the intensity of the gold accents throughout. A scene of trees upon a golden background spills onto the sides of the box.

This uniquely-shaped box is made of high quality papier mache with a red lacquer interior. The box is signed on the underside of the lid with artist's name (E. Bykova), title, village, and year.
