While this image of Ivan trying to capture the bird is a classic, the off-white color of the background, combined with hints of metallic silver, is highly unusual. Morever, the bird's gold body and feathers, inlaid with an iridescent piece of mother of pearl, looks refreshingly different from the standard red firebird. The box, painted by Fedoskino artist D. Rogatov, is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge. The bottom of the box is black, and the interior is red. It is signed at the bottom of the composition with the name of the artist and year.
