Modern day icon of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker, which is written in Old Church Slavonic near the top. The mesmerizing look of the Saint and the intricacy in the details of his face and vestments will attract much deserved attention. Most of the background in this icon has been done with very radiant gold leaf (done uniformly throughout, and not with the light and dark areas that the photos seem to show which is due to lighting effects.) The sides and bottom of the icon are black. It is made out of high quality papier mache and has a glossy lacquer shine throughout. The icon came from an artist who lives in Palekh, but it is not signed, in keeping with the old icon painters of previous centuries and the notion that the work is actually coming from the hand of God.
