This miniature by Fedoskino artist Yulia Danilina is entitled "Red Summer" and shows the image of a young lady with red poppies in her hair and butterflies flying around her. The cheery look of this blue-eyed maiden is truly infectious and in looking at the box, you may indeed find yourself smiling with her. The details are first rate right down to her hands and soft pink fingernail polish. What also makes the box special are the exquisite gold leaf lines, like razor thin slices of sunlight, that extend down from the top of her blouse, and winding around the cuffs on her arm. The lines going down have a rather earthy look to them, and small flowers dangle off to the sides. The box itself is quite unique with its curve and slight lean to the left (intentionally done this way for effect). The sides are decorated with a gold and red ornament with flowers and leaves. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the left. Signed on the bottom with the name of the artist, village, year and title.
