Watch out! Here comes a three horse sleigh, a troika, headed right towards you! The action is furious, yet you can bet that the experienced bearded gentleman in the driver's seat has things under control. The artist has painted the scene with great detail including the stars of the piece - the galloping horses. Their legs, eyes, tack, and even the breath emanating from their nostrils is drawn with great realism and detail. The troika on the snow covered field in the foreground, the small group of houses behind them, and the forest in the background all combine to give this piece a uniquely Russian look. Morever, the day is not overly bright (perhaps it is early morning) and this brings an even greater Russian atmosphere to the piece. There are a total of four gold line ornaments the frame the piece and decorate the sides. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It is signed simply on the bottom of the drawing with the name of the artist, E. A. Potekhin. You may remember him from another troika box that we had and the giclee print that we did based on it. This box is no less interesting in its action and artwork, and is a great second chance to experience the troika ride of your life.
