The panorama of a picturesque Russian city is painted on this exquisite box by Fedoskino artist A. Mitusov. The architecture runs the gamut from old majestic orthodox churches and apartment buildings to a plain old house at the edge of town, complete with a rickety fence. Tiny people can be seen here and there, going about there daily business, and a river cuts through the center of town with several boats moored at the bottom of the steep embankment at its edge. The river itself has a small inlay of mother of pearl, and its iridescence provides a nice balance to lighter sky above the city. An intricate silver filigree ornament frames the drawing and decorates the sides. The base color of the box is a handsome mix of blues and whites. The inside is red. The box has a hinge and is made out of high quality papier mache. It is signed with the name of the artist and village. An absolutely stellar architectural scene!
