The characters of the fairy tale "Ivan Tsarevich, the Firebird, and the Gray Wolf" are depicted on this unique two-sided oval box from Palekh artist Mikhail Nebogatov. Ivan is shown on one side trying to catch the firebird, while Elena is on the other, on the back of the gray wolf. The drawing on top has the two together traveling back home after their long ordeal. This is a beautifully conceived box with fine details and a nice ornament to complement the compositions. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and does not have a hinge. It stands on four small round legs. It is signed with the name of the artist, village and year.
