Rich, bold, jewel tones and creamy pastels bring the enchanted island kingdom of Prince Gvidon to life in this scene from, "The Tale of Tsar Saltan." The magical Swan Princess, in her true form, sits by Gvidon's side, with the magnificent citadel her magic created stretching out behind them in a riot of brilliantly colored domes, spires, and towers. Nobles and peasants alike gather before the palace to toast the reunion of Tsar Saltan and his long lost wife and son. A delicate golden border frames the scene, and is repeated on the sides below a thick band of green and gold. This box is made of high quality papier mache, and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (V. Tikhomirov), and village. There is no hinge, and the lid does not quite sit level, but this is not very noticeable. The interior is red lacquer, and the base of this piece is flush.
