A charming maiden with amber eyes and wheat gold hair smiles back at the viewer as the wonders of Summer unfurl before her. A rich gold foil underlay glistens, tinged with brilliant summer green at its edges and seeming to cast the delicate golden accents which add a velvety texture to the scene. The red of the maiden's bodice is echoed in succulent clusters of ripe berries, while her blue ribbons call to mind the ragged petals of chicory blossoms. A gnarled vine marks the boundary between the glowing green gold brightness and the torrential rumblings of a fast moving summer storm, its leaves peppered with fat raindrops. The sides of the box are decorated with a thich band of golden foil winking beneath delicate black scrollwork. The underside of the lid is painted with soft splashes of summer tones and twinkling gold, with faint suggestions of leaves and blossoms. The inside bottom of the box is lined with a green felt, a perfect surface to lay your finest jewelry. There is a hinge on the upper left, and the base of this piece is flush.
