Saint Serafim of Sarov kneels atop a boulder to pray before an Icon placed in a tree. Religious from an early age, Saint Serafim joined the Sarov monastery, but soon withdrew to the seclusion of the nearby forest, praying atop the boulder for one thousand days. Later in life, he had a vision of the Virgin Mary, and was able to diagnose people's troubles, both physical and spiritual, and was also granted visions and the gift of prophecy. He was very popular among the people, spreading hope, love, and joy, and was canonized in the early 20th century. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (Fiskova), and village. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. It stands on four legs, and bears the Kholui insignia, as well as the phrase, "Made in Russia" on its base. A fine religious piece to add to your collection.--BOX1257
