The warrior Princess Marya Morevna sits before a glittering landscape as her husband Ivan races the wicked Koshchey the Deathless. Ivan ignored Marya's warnings about Koshchey, and accidentally set the wizard free. Now Koshchey has taken Marya prisoner, and the only way for Ivan to free her is by beating the sorcerer in a race. Brilliant gold foil twinkles in the background, adding a brilliant warmth. The soft billows of Marya's gown and handkerchief create a subtle sense of swirling motion, drawing the eye. Roman Chibisov has created an elaborate border of gold foil grapevines circle the sides, rendered in his signature reverse style. The interior of the box is deep red, with rich brown and yellow accents adding a sunset feel. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the underside of the lid with the title, artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge on the left. The base of this piece is flush.
