The Flying Ship (2007)from Palekh by D. BonokinDimensions: 5.50" x 1.50"(13.70 x 4.00 cm) Gallery Price: $ 795.00 Internet Price: $ 745.00 None currently available |
The young fool stands at the prow of his flying ship with the beautiful princess by his side. Despite her father's best efforts to prevent his daughter from marrying a peasant, the fool's kindness won him friends who made easy work of what the tsar thought would be impossible tasks. It seems the entire court has gathered to gawk at the enchanted vessel, rushing into the courtyard of the palace with upturned eyes. A pair of servants peer down from a window, fascinated by the nobility's fascination with the ship full of peasants. The scene is beautifully painted in rich colors with a wealth of delicate gold and silver accents. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (D. Bonokin), village, and date of completion. There is no hinge, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush. --BOX1064
