By the Well (c.2005)from Kholui by A. Us.Dimensions: 1.50" x 1.25" x 1.50"(3.81 x 3.18 x 3.81 cm) Gallery Price: $ 125.00 Internet Price: $ 95.00 None currently available |
The young man suddenly halts at the sight of a beautiful young maid, carrying buckets of water from the well. His green cape, waving in the air, matches in color the embroidered dress of the beauty. He touches his hat, as if in action of taking it off to pay respects to the maid. The golden horse seems not as glad of this sudden stop, as it angrily raises its hoof and scowls. The painting, with its green and yellow shades set against deep red background, has a very fresh and brisk look.
The box is made from papier mache. It sits flat with no legs, and opens without a hinge. The interior is red (so is the outer box, instead of the usual black). The sides of the box are decorated with a gold ornament. Signed with artist's initials, name of the composition, and village. Lacquer is in good condition.
