Everything about this work has an air of antiquity to it: the exquisite old-world ornamentation, the sturdy craftsmanship of the box itself, the authentic lacquered papier mache smell inside it and, finally, the composition. The image of the hunter - an aristocrat, judging from his rich garments - powerfully holding the falcon with his one hand and halting his horse with another, looks heroic. The traditional wooden house far in the distance, and the warm burgundy and gold hues starting in the center of the painting and spilling out into the surrounding ornament complete the 12th century feel of this work.
Made from high quality papier mache, this box sits flat and has a hinge at the top. It opens to a classic red interior. The painting is signed with the name of the artist, composition, and village. Bottom left corner of the lid and the box, as well as top left corner from the bottom have small dents.
