The lengendary Ilya Muromomets is depicted on this box, which was painted by Mstera artist P. Golovanov. Ilya started this life not being able to walk, but several poor men came to his house one day and believed in him. A miracle then happened, and not only was he able to walk, but he could perform some incredible feats of strength, like the one here - ripping a tree trunk from its roots. This box boldly depicts this larger-than-life hero with fine lines, vivid colors, and great workmanship. It has some first rate gold and silver ornamentation, as well, around the drawing and on the sides. It is made out of papier mache and has a hinge at the top. The interior is red. Signed with the name of the artist, village and title.
