This enchanting box displays a scene from the fairytale The Frog Princess. In the tale, three sons shoot arrows into the sky to find their brides. The youngest son discovers his arrow in a swamp, indicating he must marry a frog. The lad bends down as a look of sorrow spreads across his face. His staff rests on his shoulder, and he pulls his feathered hat from his head. The cute frog sits on a lily pad surrounded by blooming flowers and colorful bugs. A glittering gold crown and necklace adorn the frog, giving the viewer a hint to the frog's true identity. The scene is painted with a variety of bright colors that have been softened with an ample use of white. The box itself is a lovely shade of cream. A castle and a few trees stand in the background. The tallest tree has golden leaves which continue down the sides of the box to create a border. The box is signed inside the cover with the artist's name (M. Galyamina), village, and title of the piece. The box is made of high quality papier mache with a cream interior. The piece is flush.
