The focal point of this gorgeous cityscape of Moscow can be seen to the left: The Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Construction was finally completed in 1860, only to be demolished in 1931 by order of Stalin. It remained a public swimming pool until 1990, when the cathedral was rebuilt. It is the tallest Eastern Orthodox church. Further to the right, we see the Kremlin. Mother of pearl gleams from the cathedral as well as the river. Gold and silver accents shine throughout the rest of the architecture. Aleksey Puchkov (the son of the late Petr Puchkov, one of Fedoskino's most renowned artists) painted this work, adding another great piece to his impressive portfolio. The box is made of high quality papier mache with a red lacquer interior. It is signed on the lid with the village, year, and artist (Puchkov). Although there is no substitute for enjoying Moscow's grand architecture in person, this lovely box by Puchkov goes a long way to taking you, at least in spirit, to this historical place.
