Compelling icon of Saint Nicholas the Miracle Worker done by Palekh artist Maya Nebogatova. The work was painted by the young Nebogatova (who I believe was around 20 when she did this) with fine detail and looks like it could have come from a veteran icon painter with years of experience. The rich but subtle colors of the bishop's vestment (the pictures here seem a little bright) are contrasted with the radiant gold leaf that has been applied to the halo behind his head. The icon is painted on a wood with two slats in back. It is in very good condition throughout and is not heavily lacquered, but rather has just light shine. Nebogatova signed it in back with her name, along with the village (Palekh) and the date.
