Set against a rich green background, six butterflies visit a group of field of poppies, both on the outside and inside of this high quality work. The box was painted by Fedoskino artist L. Davydova, who took great care in painting all the details throughout. In the wing of each butterfly, the artist used leaf-like markings of white color and radiant foil inlays to provide beautiful splashes of color to the composition and balance the surrounding reds and greens. The box is made out of papier mache and signed on the lid with the name of the artist, village and year. Davydova did a similar work to this with different flowers and a different color scheme which you can see here. Wouldn't want to make a choice between these two, they are both very lovely!
