This portrait by Fedoskino artist A. Vashenko, shows the beautiful face of a young Russian woman as she looks off just to the side. Judging from her luxurious fur lined garment, expensive earrings, and fancy hat, she comes from the upper strata of society, the nobility. The most important part of any portrait is the face and the artist Vashenko paints hers with a very skilled hand. Her skin is smooth, her eyes are expressive, she has certain presence. And while she may just be posing for the purpose of the portrait, without a care in the world, she might also be thinking deeply on a more serious subject; such is the mystery of the Russian woman. The box's base color is a dark taupe, and the portrait has two gold line ornaments, one framing the drwing and the other on the side. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the left. It is signed with the name of the artist and village. Lovely!
