Ivan and the princess soar across the sky on a magic carpet. Ivan is holding a cage with the Firebird, a symbol of happiness, and it looks like these two are destined for the proverbial fairy tale "happy ending." Set against the dark backdrop of the night sky, the couple and the Firebird are beautifully illuminated with the vivid paints, gold foil trim, and mother of pearl inlays (in the dress of the princess and in the tail of the firebird). The carpet also has a glow to it, contrasting nicely with the dark sky, as well. There are a few dozen stars behind them, and a few streaking comets. Maybe you would like to make a wish? Meanwhile, the moon shines brightly on the upper right because of its own inlay of iridescent mother-of-pearl. Winding around all the sides of the box are small houses and churches nestled into the peaceful countryside. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It is signed with the name of the artist, village and year. A nicely done work that comes at a very reasonable price.
