Nature holds its breath at the sight of an angel gently caressing a young maid. The grass and wild flowers shelter the couple in their midst, while the animals rest unperturbed nearby. The delicate blue and pink flowers behind the couple, white little flowers on the grass, and the tender expressions on the faces of young lovers add a sweet, innocent touch to this work. The composition is full of movement: the angel's robe is flowing in the wind, flung aside in the moment of passion, while the maid's corrugated garment swirls from her legs down to the grass; the running river and wavering tree tops complete the liveliness of the scene. Blue is the dominant color in this composition, reminding of angel's heavenly presence. The brown river bank, peacock's tail and the warm beige tones of the lovers create a potent contrast to the cool tones in the rest of the painting. The angel's brown wings, pointed towards the sky underscore that contrast, as if symbolizing the invasion of a heavenly territory by an earthly passion.
