The name of this box comes from the most famous Russian folk song. You can read about it here. The article says "Kalinka Malinka doesn't make much sense if you listen to the words, but the song is about nature, not meaning. It always brings the pictures of quiet Russian summer somewhere far, far away from Moscow." And this box certainly does capture that carefree feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The box has very soft and soothing colors, except for a few areas of gold leaf (in her headdress and the decorative band on the bottom of her dress) which provide some dazzling slivers of radiance. The box has a gold ornament on the side against a pale green color. It is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the left. Signed on the bottom of the box with the name of the artist, village and title.
